Whatever your design and engineering needs, Solvida’s expertise will help ensure your project’s success.
Commercial and utility scale solar markets are increasingly competitive. As the price of silicon continues to fall, how you engineer and construct a project has become the driver of industry success.
If you intend to be ahead of the curve, you need to build solar power systems that are cost effective, reliable, AND high performing.
At Solvida – we believe the key to any project’s success is seasoned engineering and innovative design. We provide your team with:
- Structural, civil, electrical and mechanical design engineering services for solar projects
- Mechanical, civil, and electrical PE stamping for 10 states
- High voltage and substation design
- Solar power performance modeling
Our design and engineering services are founded in the following principles:
Well-engineered project drawings make for successful construction cycles: When you work with Solvida – your design strategy and drawings are developed to mitigate construction risk.
Incorporating proven innovation maximizes your competitive edge: Our collaborations with downstream EPC partners provide us with a steady stream of innovative practices in solar project construction. We match these proven techniques with our client’s needs to provide you with the most efficient and effective engineering and design strategies available.
Risk Mitigation saves you time and money: When you work with Solvida, your design strategy and drawings are developed to mitigate risk. Short-term risks – like construction risk – are mitigated via our proactive and focused communication structure. Every design decision is properly documented ensure details don’t slip through the cracks. Long term risks – like performance and reliability – are mitigated by specifying system components that are reliable, compatible, and proven in your specific application.
How it works
Our design process starts with a customized assessment of your project site and design needs – from project construction through the project’s 25-35 year lifetime.
1. Perform site audit and record all relevant attributes of the proposed site
- Location
- Climate
- Solar insolation (a quantitative measurement of “sunny”-ness)
- Type (e.g. existing building, proposed building, ground, etc.)
- Proximity to utility grid
- Site features (e.g. hills, shade obstacles, etc.)
- Access
2. Gauge proposed site’s “solar potential”
- Evaluate which technologies would be appropriate for the proposed site
- Compare and contrast technology combinations to maximize solar “harvest” potential
With a completed conceptual design, we can add the details needed for your project subcontractor bid process.
We understand the details needed for your project to get the most accurate and cost effective bids from potential subcontractors.
1. Choosing the project parts that will help meet your project’s goals
- Analyze pros/cons of different technology combinations
- Clearly communicate your various “best option” scenarios
2. Develop drawing set structure
- Create the format and information flow in which we will communicate the required scope of work
- Add details and specifics that help bidders understand the work they are required to bid
3. Generate draft bid set for your review and approval
When your drawing set contains code compliant design and details that reflect a fully engineered project, it is ready for permit submittal.
When you work with Solvida, we leverage our years of design and construction experience to provide the best possible drawing set in the fewest number of drafts. We minimize the time consuming – and costly – ‘back and forth’ iterations with the permitting jurisdictions to ensure your permitting process moves on time and on budget.
1. Submit fully stamped drawing set to client for processing with permit agency
- Include Professional Engineering stamps where applicable
- Include supporting calculations
- Include product documentation including install manuals and specification sheets
2. Establish communication structure with agency representatives
- Instill level of trust and collaboration that any outstanding questions or issues will be handled professionally and thoroughly
- Develop paper trail of permit initiated design changes
- Ensure that any permitting initiated additional requirements for inspections or meetings are understood by EPC and client
3. Generate “For Construction” design
- Add any additional details required by permitting agency
- Distribute final drawings to client and EPC contractors
4. Manage design engineering through the construction process
- Create communication structure for receiving any design changes requested by installers in the field during construction
- Participate in onsite meeting between subcontractors and client
- Generate “As Built” designs at end of project construction
If we didn’t engineer your system, it doesn’t mean we can’t help your project.
Providing an independent review of your project’s design can help your subcontractors save time and you save money.
1. Electrical Design
- Review suggested configurations and wire sizing
- Confirm selected equipment
- Verify projected power production
2. Plant Design
- Review layout size and placement of equipment
- Ensure plant design is adequate for consistent delivery of materials and equipment
